The Hunger Within

This enemy of mine,
is a drug induced swine
The battle of the bulge
I continue to indulge
Eat, Eat, Eat

I gotta pop the Pred,
then I grab a piece of bread
The seams are busting out,
the mind continues to shout
Eat, Eat, Eat

Prednisone -- you suck!
wearing shirts outside - can't tuck!
I am tired of this battle,
yet my mind continues to rattle
Eat, Eat, Eat

Sarc bros and sisters
Are we having fun yet?
Prednisone -- UGH!!!

Authors note:
Prednisone is a very strong corticosteriod. Currently it is the number one choice of drugs used to help treat the symptoms caused by the disease: Sarcoidosis. ( pronounced: sar-coy-doh-sis) The side effects of this steriod treatment are wicked and many. To list a few; stomach upset, high blood pressure, slow wound healing, water retention, moon face ( Cushing's syndrome), muscle weakness, increased sweating, dizziness, headaches, weight gain, increased blood sugar, weakening of the bones causing an increased risk of fracturing, and at times with high dosage requirements one can develop, corticosteriod psychosis.

The incidence and severity of any adverse effects depends on the dosage and the length of treatment. People who need to use the drug - Prednisone - to function and to fight disease symptoms, feel very frustrated, between the battle of their disease and the drug side effects. Please.... be kind to them.
